1955. Paolo Aldi is born in Rovereto on December 20th.

1974. He began collaborating as a photographer with the regional daily Alto Adige as soon as he obtained his scientific high school diploma, link: Focus on the community. Paolo Aldi remembers

1976. Opens his own studio in Rovereto. For several years he collaborates in various educational experiences in the school world where photography is used as an interdisciplinary activity. Particular interest in pinhole photography.

1986. Starts the color laboratory activity.

1988. He ended his collaborations with newspapers and focused on study and laboratory activities. The photojournalistic material produced over fifteen years is collected and preserved at the Museo Storico del Trentino, link Paolo Aldi Photographic Archive. For seven years he served as president of the association of professional photographers of Trentino.

1990. The rediscovery of ancient photographic printing techniques begins, focusing especially on gum bichromate and kallitype.

1995. He resumes his previous studies on the use of infrared film and begins to use it regularly in the field of portraiture.

1996. Begins a regular exhibition activity of his artistic works. Starts teaching activities mainly focused on darkroom techniques; teaches photography courses for conscripted soldiers as part of European projects; holds seminars and workshops at academies, public and private educational institutions. Creates the photographs of the cycle Corpo (s)conosciuto.

1997. Exhibits in a group show of Italian photographers in Belgium at the Accademie des beaux arts in Tamines. Holds a solo exhibition in Palermo at the Lewis Hine photographic gallery. Begins creating photographs for the Fluttuazioni series.

1998. He is awarded ex aequo the first prize at the Toscana Fotofestival. He exhibits the work Fluttuazioni at the Galleria le due spine in Rovereto.  At Palazzo Libera in Villa Lagarina he exhibits the new work Impressioni. In Palermo at the Libreria Dante he exhibits Corpo (s)conosciuto.

1999. He is co-founder of the Museum Gallery of the Art of Printing (GAMS) and is in charge of its photography section. He exhibits Fluttuazioni in New York, Florence, Brescia, and Massa Marittima.

2000. He resumes pinhole photography and regularly dedicates himself to its experimentation and use. For GAMS, he curates "The Language of Printing," a series of exhibitions and theoretical and educational meetings dedicated to rediscovering aspects of fine art photographic printing, providing a starting point for reflection on the possibilities offered to photographic language by the knowledge and use of different materials and techniques.

2001. Begins the artisanal production of HAL: an original pinhole device made of cherry wood. Exhibits Fluttuazioni in Brussels. Exhibits in Barcelona at the Zero Art Gallery.

2002. At Santa Maria della Scala in Siena, he participates, in a dedicated room, in the international exhibition "Senza obiettivo" pinhole photography exhibition. He is among the exhibitors at the Annual National Juried Art Exhibition in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA.

2003. He exhibits with other artists from Rovereto in the group show “Between a Time That Falls Apart and One That Is Born” and in Savignano sul Rubicone with his own solo show “The Pinhole Gaze”.

2004. Collaborates with the Superintendence for Historical-Artistic Heritage of the Autonomous Province of Trento, producing the photographic prints for the exhibition “Professione donna”. Exhibits his solo show Ritratti in Piazza at Palazzo Libera in Villa Lagarina (TN): 50 large-format portraits made with a pinhole camera. The volume Ritratti in Piazza is published by Nicolodi Editore. Becomes a member of the Coordinating Team of the WPPD (Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day). Creates the series Cibi fantastici.

2005. Oversees the historical research, conception, and realization of the major exhibition “The Bell Tells Its Story. Autobiography of Maria Dolens” for the Fondazione Opera Campana dei Caduti of Rovereto.

2006. He curated the set-up in Basel, at the Offene Kirche Elisabethen, of the exhibition “The Bell Tells Its Story. Autobiography of Maria Dolens.” He collaborated with the Superintendency for Historical and Artistic Heritage of the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Artisans Association of the Province of Trento, producing the photographic prints for the exhibition “Craftsman’s Knowledge. Photographs of Old Trades of Trentino.”

He collaborates with the Superintendency for Historical-Artistic Heritage of the Autonomous Province of Trento, producing photographic prints from Federico Vender's negatives for the exhibition “Architectures without Architects”.

2007. Organizes “Ant, before and after winter 2007,” his own anthology that heralds the change of location of his atelier. On this occasion, the first exhibition of the Muffazioni cycle.

2008. The new photographic atelier opens at via Rialto 47 in Rovereto: "not a shop... but an unusual, spacious studio, a gallery of large photographs on the walls. A place for exhibiting and selling photographs and unusual and now rare photographic equipment and materials..." Prints the photographs for Peter Coffin's solo exhibition at Manifesta 7. Creates the installation "Bertolini Arte".

2009. Curates the set-up in Marcinelle, Belgium, in the former Le Bois du Cazier mine, of the exhibition “The Bell Tells Its Story. Autobiography of Maria Dolens.” Organizes and coordinates the 1st edition of Rovereto Stenopeica.

2010. Installation and performance Water… essence of being together with Lia Grigoletti at Palazzo Bertolini in Rovereto. Organizes and coordinates the 2nd edition of Rovereto Stenopeica.

2011. He oversees the organization and set-up at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg of the exhibition "150 Years After the Unification of Italy: The Message of Peace from Maria Dolens." He exhibits at the MIA Art Fair in Milan. He oversees the organization and set-up of the exhibition for the 25th anniversary of the Il Ponte cooperative in Rovereto. He collaborates with the Superintendency for Historical and Artistic Heritage of the Autonomous Province of Trento, producing photographic prints for the exhibition "Stone Shots. Sculptures by Andrea Malfatti in Photography between the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries." Together with his wife Lia, he develops a special technique derived from lumen prints for creatively photographing flowers. He organizes and coordinates the 3rd edition of Rovereto Stenopeica.

2012. Designs and creates for the artist Giorgio Andreotta Calò the optical apparatus for the Camera obscura installed at the Maxxi museum in Rome, winner of the Italia 2012 prize. He also designs and creates for the artist Giorgio Andreotta Calò the optical apparatuses for the Camera obscuras he created in a large installation at the Smart Museum in Amsterdam. Organizes and coordinates the 4th edition of Rovereto Stenopeica. First exhibition of Sunny flowers.

2013. He completes the Simo series of works. He portrays artisans and shopkeepers in the Workers series exhibited along the streets of the historic center of Rovereto and in front of the shops.

2014. Launches the edition of an artist's book series. During the year publishes Fluttuazioni, Ritratti futuristi, Sunny flowers, Senza parole. Exhibits in Paris at “Page(s) – Salon du livre d’artiste”. Participates in the “Civil Pilgrimage of Peace” along the First World War front. Publishes the book of reflections and photographs Pellegrinaggio civile della pace. Creates the portrait series “Intreccio” for the Triennale del legno in Trento. Honorable mention from the jury of the Moscow International Foto Awards. Exhibits Simo at the Expert gallery in Bibbiena.

2015. He moves his studio and residence to an ancient renovated spinning mill, in Nomi between Trento and Rovereto. He creates the fifth artist's book Civil Pilgrimage of Peace. He curates, creates, and sets up the permanent exhibition of the Fondazione Opera Campana dei Caduti in Rovereto: "The World at the Bell".

2016. She dedicates herself to encaustic photography on wood. She presents the cycle The Lake in a solo exhibition at the Congress Center of Riva del Garda. She exhibits three of her artist's books in San Donà di Piave for the International Review “From Book to Book/the essence of artist's books.” She launches the operation Aromatic homage to Marcel Duchamp with the installation of the same name, a blog, a dedicated Facebook page, and a crowdfunding campaign for financing.

2017. Designs and creates the optical apparatus and the Camera obscura installed at the Museion (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art) in Bolzano for the exhibition Hämatli & Patriæ curated by Nicolò Degiorgis. Participates in Arte Padova - Contemporary Art Talent Show exhibiting Il Lago. In France, in Mandelieu la Napoule, he is present at the International Contemporary Art Fair exhibiting the box Il Lago. Exhibits in an apartment, in Nomi in Trentino, the exhibition Aromatico homage to Marcel Duchamp with the presentation of the catalogue/report of the operation, the work Tentazione oculista and the artist's book Dato a.

2018. Creates with Lia a folder in which she presents a new series of Sunny Flowers. Participates with her own exhibition at the second edition of Arte Vicenza. Participates with her own space at Autentica unconventional art fair in Verona and wins the IVYnode prize with the work Eco e Narciso. In the church of San Osvaldo in Rovereto, she exhibits Sunny Flowers and Aromatico omaggio a Marcel Duchamp.

2019. Designs and installs, for the artist Giorgio Andreotta Calò, the optical apparatus for the Camera obscura created on the 31st floor of the Pirelli skyscraper in Milan.

2020. Exhibits Bellum in the halls of the Fondazione Opera Campana dei Caduti. Exhibits Radici in Palazzo Rosmini in Rovereto.

2021. Exhibits Sunny Flowers in the church of San Martino near Lake Cei. Exhibits Sunny Flowers in the church of San Martino near Lake Cei (Trento). Exhibits Bellum at the “La soffitta – Spazio delle arti” Gallery in Sesto Fiorentino.
