At the top left, a period Souvenir in memory of the siege of Paris, on the right some pieces of bread, below two ration coupons and a recipe for bread during the siege, further down a license for the movements of bakers and a notice addressed to them, scattered dry ingredients. The dimensions are 40 x 30 x 3 centimeters. The technique used is encaustic: photographic and more. “Le pain” is dedicated to the Parisians of 1871 and their commitment to the conquest of rights and dignity. Starved, first by the Prussian siege and then by the Versailles army, they managed to withstand many hardships, including the lack of decent bread, a fundamental food at the time. They had to eat bread that was even unhealthy. Reproductions of period documents and today’s bread and grains were used.
