The Paris Commune. Monday, May 29, 1871. The fort of Vincennes surrenders. This position was never involved in the fighting due to its outlying location and the proximity of the occupying Prussian troops. Once the red flag was lowered, the fort surrendered without firing a shot. As soon as the garrison was disarmed, the officers were executed by the Versaillais troops.

Now everything is truly over. Thiers, the head of the Versailles government, telegraphs the prefects and, regarding Paris and the Parisian insurgents, states: "The ground is strewn with corpses; this dreadful spectacle will serve as a lesson.”
