“18 March”, dedicated to the women and men of the Paris Commune of 1871 and their attempt to reach for the sky. A four-handed work: mine and Lia’s. Reproductions of a map of Paris (1871) and the period photograph “Canon a Montmartre” by Bruno Brasquehais, original albumen print, were used. The female portraits, from left to right and top to bottom, are reproductions of photographs taken by Eugène Appert and represent the “Communardes” Christine Dargent, Louise Michel, Hortense David, Herminie Cadolle, Felicite Paul, Sofia Kovalevskaï̈a, Elisabeth Dmitrieff, and Victorine Brochet. Mixed media: paper, photographs, bandages, and beeswax on wooden panels. The dimensions are 54 x 73 x 3 cm. The technique used is photographic encaustic.
