The Paris Commune. Thursday, May 4, 1871. In a Parisian economy made up mostly of very small businesses, it is very difficult for the Commune to set wages as is in its principles, but concrete measures are nonetheless taken. On April 2, it had been proclaimed that in a truly democratic Republic there could not be too many income differences, and a maximum salary of 6,000 francs per year was set. Today, in the same vein, municipal officials are prohibited from accumulating income from multiple and different positions.
