The Paris Commune. Friday, April 14, 1871. Today marks the beginning of the bombardment of Asnières by the artillery of Versailles. The bombardment will continue until April 17. In recent days, General Ladislas Dombrowski, commanding the National Guard of the Commune, had wrested this locality, a few kilometers northwest of Paris, from the hands of the Versailles army. In Paris, the first assembly of the federation of artists is held at the amphitheater of the medical school. Gustave Courbet is elected president of this federation.
