The Paris Commune. Thursday, March 23, 1871. While the day is calmer in Paris, Marseille and Lyon rise up and proclaim their respective Communes. The unrest, opposition to the national government, the desire for emancipation and self-determination, the revolutionary yearning are not only the prerogative of the French capital. While it is true that the countryside still sees a popular majority tied to the monarchy or a conservative vision, one should not believe that outside Paris, in other cities of the nation, there is no desire or activity of revolt. Today, in many other cities in France, revolt is being prepared or has already begun.
