The Paris Commune. March 11, 1871, Saturday. General Vinoy, commander-in-chief of the Paris army, orders the suspension of the publication of 6 republican newspapers including Le Père Duchêne, Le Vengeur, La Bouche de fer, Le Cri du peuple and Le Mot d'ordre. Auguste Blanqui and Gustave Flourens are sentenced to death in absentia for their participation in the insurrection attempt that took place in Paris on October 31, 1870. On that occasion, during the siege of the French capital, during the Franco-Prussian war of 1870, there were major protests against the military policy of the Government of National Defense, with the intention of proclaiming the Commune, that is, an autonomous commune administered according to the principles of direct democracy.
