Sunny Flowers - The Technique
Sunny Flowers are fantastic flowers, works that are the result of a process carried out four-handed by me and Lia, my wife. Sunny Flowers are the result, which we consider "magical," of the combination of nature, our sensitivity, our creativity, the sun, technique, and the pleasure of a four-handed work by two people who are life companions.
Originally, they are usually small wildflowers that sprout in the grass in spring and summer, often in our home garden. We select and pick some and immediately expose them to the sun, placed on a photographic film (the characteristic ones from the last century) and pressed between a small board and a pane of glass. After a few dozen minutes, we remove the glass, detach the flowers from the film that preserves their shapes. Later, we create a digital file from our negatives and digitally create the colors we desire.
Then we move on to various printing systems to obtain the finished works.
In these works, besides the aesthetic aspect, there is the conceptual one of condensing into a single procedure the history of photographic technique in its evolution from the nineteenth-century use of the sun to impress photographic prints, to the use of negatives characteristic of the last century, up to the use of current digital technique. We skip the use of the camera to reach the deepest roots of photography, which is the work of light that allows the recording of shapes on materials sensitive to it.
